UNS S31254 est chalybs inoxidabilis superausteniticus cum alto gradu molybdeni et nitrogenii, praebens magnam resistentiam corrosionis per foveas et rimas, necnon magnam firmitatem comparatus cum chalybibus inoxidabilibus austeniticis conventionalibus sicut 316L. UNS S31254 est gradus austeniticus in quo additiones chromii, molybdeni et nitrogenii magnam resistentiam corrosionis per foveas in aqua marina dant. Haec mixtura medium Numerum Aequivalentem Resistentiae Fovearum (‚PREN' = Cr+3.3Mo+16N) 43.8 habet. Experimenta indicant magnam resistentiam impetui corrosionis per rimas in aqua marina et fissuris corrosionis sub tensione in chlorido natrii calido concentrato. Comparatus cum chalybe CrNiMo 17 12 2.5, ostendit resistentiam corrosionis superiorem in multis acidis in similibus concentrationibus et eius firmitas flexionis est circiter 50% maior. Bona sudabilitas utens consumptibilibus Ni-Cr-Mo. Recoctio refrigerans et brevia tempora intra intervallum 600-1000°C impediunt possibilem progressionem noxiae phasis sigma, quae fragilitatem reddere et resistentiam corrosionis minuere potest.
